A useful number has a definition, a source, and a date. When those are missing, we say so.
Selection standard
The free pilot is a curated collection of identifiable web businesses with public founder or company income disclosures and source-linked editorial research. We review the original disclosure and retain its metric, currency, reporting period and limitations. Historical statements remain dated; an undated dashboard does not become a dated financial report when we visit it. Coverage will expand as additional sources are reviewed.
Profile depth
Revenue profiles link a public financial report and a product website. Researched profiles also include an editorial breakdown with cited sources. A successful website response does not establish product quality. Third-party verification claims remain attributed to the reporting platform, not MRRTrace.
What we collect
Profiles use public product pages, company disclosures, founder posts, dashboards, and repositories. Product descriptions summarize public positioning. Lessons and considerations are MRRTrace editorial observations.
Revenue metrics stay distinct
MRR, ARR, monthly run rate, and revenue over a particular period describe different things. We retain the source's metric, currency, period, and reporting method. Where a disclosure gives only a dollar sign without identifying the currency, we label it Unspecified $ and exclude it from USD comparisons. The amount remains an attributed report; no exchange rate or assumed currency is applied. We do not turn annual revenue into MRR or sum unrelated figures. Approximate source figures remain marked as approximate.
Observation date versus reporting date
Source checked is when we reviewed the material. Figure as of is the date associated with the claim. Reading a historical report today does not make its number current. Undated dashboards remain explicitly undated. Source updated describes the platform update, not a financial reporting cutoff.
What counts as verified MRR?
The pilot publishes attributed company and founder disclosures. It does not currently accept payment-provider connections. These figures describe what the source reported; they have not been independently audited by MRRTrace.
- Company or founder disclosure: a statement, public dashboard or interview supports the reported figure. A citation or screenshot alone does not establish payment verification.
- Payment-provider verification: this would require an owner-authorized connection, an explicit calculation policy, product mapping and a recent successful sync. It is not enabled in this pilot.
Source freshness is separate from evidence type. Reading a page today does not refresh its underlying revenue. Missing, stale or conflicting dates remain visible.
MRR is not last month's cash
MRR normalizes recurring subscriptions to a monthly value. For example, ten $19 monthly subscriptions plus five $120 annual subscriptions produce $240 MRR before applicable discounts. That is different from the cash collected during the month. One-time sales, lifetime deals, forecasts and annual company revenue cannot simply be relabeled MRR. Taxes, discounts, trials, overdue subscriptions and usage-based charges require an explicit calculation policy.
Even a provider-derived figure would not prove profitability, customer independence or the absence of artificial transactions. Product attribution, discounts, taxes, trials, overdue subscriptions and usage-based charges need explicit treatment. See Stripe metric definitions for an example of why calculation policies matter.
Disclosure is not our verification
MRRTrace has not independently audited company accounts. A company disclosure remains a company disclosure. We do not present source-linked research as direct access to payment accounts.
Sorting and ranges
Public revenue first groups profiles with a recorded disclosure. Revenue sorting orders the selected exact metric and currency, defaulting to USD MRR; other metrics follow alphabetically. Revenue range filters require an exact metric and currency. Reporting dates may still differ within the same metric. GitHub stars rank repository interest, not commercial performance.
Unknown is not zero
Not disclosed means no qualifying revenue figure is recorded. It does not mean no revenue. GitHub signals describe the specific linked repository, which may be related to a hosted product without being identical to it.
